According to his words, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to run again for the post of Prime Minister in the upcoming elections, which are scheduled for November 2026. At the same time, Netanyahu said on Saturday that expects to win these elections. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency. Asked by Channel 14 whether he intends to run for another term, Netanyahu said: “Yes.” He also answered the question of whether he expects to win.
The leader of the Likud party has been in the prime minister’s chair for 18 years, with breaks since 1996. In the last elections, this party won 32 seats in the parliament. Netanyahu’s current term began in 2022, during which he proposed sweeping judicial reforms. According to critics, these were intended to weaken the courts. These reforms sparked mass protests, which subsided after the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. Currently, the Israeli prime minister is being prosecuted for corruption. In addition, during the war in the Palestinian enclave, he was criticized by the families of the hostages, who were kidnapped by commandos of the Palestinian militant movement Hamas during the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli Prime Minister also commented on the war in the Gaza Strip, which, according to him, will end when the second phase of the ceasefire is completed. “Phase B also includes the disarmament of Hamas, or more precisely the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip after the disarmament of Hamas,” Netanyahu said. “When this is successfully completed – hopefully easily – the war will be over,” he added.
The Palestinian movement still rejects the idea of disarmament and since the beginning of the cease-fire, it has gradually deployed its armed members back into the streets of the Gaza Strip. Oin addition, the militants of this movement executed several civilians, whom they identified as collaborators.
