Convicted of passive corruption and procedural fraud, he was acquitted by the Court and had his arrest revoked. The decision was announced this Tuesday (21/10) by the Superior Court of Bogotá.
For the Court, telephone tapping, later used as evidence against the former agent, was considered illegal.
In early August, Uribe became the first former president of Colombia to be convicted in the country’s history, following a decision by the 44th District Court of Bogotá, which sentenced him to 12 years under house arrest.
He was also fined US$578,000 and banned from holding public office for around eight years.
