17-year-old Portuguese woman makes history by winning gold at the World Skating Championship

At just 17 years old, Madalena Costa became the first Portuguese woman to win the senior world title in free skating. The young woman, who is in her first year at the senior level, finished the championship held in Beijing, China, with a total of 260.15 points, combining the scores from the short and long program.

Madalena, who had already won the European Championship in September, highlighted the importance of the work of her technical team and revealed that she is motivated for new challenges. The skater also recalled the sacrifices and efforts necessary to achieve this historic feat, from long hours of training to overcoming falls and personal doubts.

Portugal also had the presence of Catarina Craveiro, who finished in 7th place with 151.78 points, and Mariana Almeida, who came in 8th place with 142.91 points.
