The board of directors of Telefónica has decided the departure of Javier de Paz as director after 18 years of permanence in the highest governing body of Telefónica for 18 years. Appointed under the presidency of César Alierta in 2006, after being part of the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, he remained on the council under the presidencies of José María Álvarez Pallete and the arrival of Marc Murtra in January of this year.
The board of directors, which met this Wednesday, has approved, at the proposal of the Appointments and Remuneration Committee, the appointment of César Mascaraque as a director of the company to replace De Paz.
The appointment is produced by co-option and with the support of all the members of the board, as reported by Telefónica to the CNMV. Mascaraque replaces Javier de Paz, who has voluntarily resigned from his position as director to perform executive functions as the new deputy director to the president, responsible for Infrastructure, Real Estate Assets and Corporate Social Responsibility. Positions that he will combine with the non-executive presidency of Movistar Plus, which he accepted last May.
Among the decisions approved this Wednesday is also the appointment of Ana María Sala Andrés, Murtra’s trusted woman since her time at Indra, as president of the Telefónica Sustainability and Regulation Commission.
Mascaraque has an extensive professional career of more than 25 years as an entrepreneur and businessman in the technology sector internationally. He is an industrial engineer from the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers of Barcelona and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School, and is currently an independent director of the Board of Directors of Telefônica Brasil.
