Rubio warns that Israel’s proposal to annex the West Bank represents a threat to Trump’s peace plan
The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, assured in the early hours of this Thursday that the decision of the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament) to annex the West Bank, if carried out, would threaten President Donald Trump’s plan to end the conflict in Gaza.
The Israeli Parliament approved on Wednesday in preliminary reading (it still needs three more votes) a proposal to annex the West Bank, which has already been under Israeli military occupation since the Six-Day War of 1967.
Rubio will arrive in Israel this Thursday, where he will be until next Saturday, to support the implementation of the peace agreement for the Strip. The head of American diplomacy will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tomorrow, Friday.
Rubio will be in Israel from October 22 to 25 to maintain continuity of the plan to end the conflict in Gaza and will then join Trump’s tour of Asia. This visit, Rubio’s third to Israel since mid-September, follows those of US Vice President JD Vance, along with the White House special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, who wanted – from Israel – to convey a reassuring message about the stability of the current ceasefire in Gaza.
