The President previously said that a more effective way to combat the use of narcotics would be to take action with buyers
The president acknowledged that he was wrong when he said that “drug dealers are victims of drug users”. He said that the phrase was “misplaced” and that his “position is very clear against drug traffickers and organized crime”. In a publication in X this Friday afternoon (24), however, Lula did not apologize for what he said. He said that “more important than words are the actions” of his government. “I made a poorly placed sentence this Thursday and I want to say that my position is very clear against drug traffickers and organized crime. More important than words are the actions that my government has been carrying out, as is the case with the biggest operation in history against organized crime, the referral to Congress of the Public Security PEC and the record drug seizures in the country”, stated the president.
The publication was made at 2:15 pm, Brasília time. Lula is in Malaysia, where, due to the time difference, it was 1:15 am on Saturday. In the text, the president says, although “we will remain firm in confronting drug trafficking and organized crime”. In a statement this Friday, Lula said that a more effective way to combat drug use would be to take action with users.
“Every time we talk about fighting drugs, it would probably be easier for us to fight our addicts internally. The users, the users are responsible for the traffickers who are victims of the users too. You have an exchange of people who sell because there are people who buy (…). So we need to be more careful when fighting drugs”, he stated.
