Preparation runs until next week, October 29th, in the south and east of Bavaria. It involves 500 soldiers from the German military police (Feldjäger) and 300 civilian support elements, including police, firefighters and rescue teams.
The maneuvers are used to train defense operations in a war scenario – especially in areas “behind the front line” – outside traditional military training camps.
During the exercises, military and civilian forces practice responding to threats such as drones, sabotage and attacks by non-state armed groups, simulating the defense of a NATO member state under attack.
Several will be tested contexts: investigation of combat sites, traffic control, detection of weapons depots, combating illegal trafficking and protection of critical infrastructure — including the decommissioned Isar 2 nuclear reactor.
The exercise gains special importance in the context of the current security situation in Europe, marked by the . According to the Bundeswehr, the objective is to strengthen cooperation between military and civilian forces and improve the country’s response capacity in the event of aggression.
The actions take place in 12 districts northeast of Munich, with emphasis on Landshut, Regensburg, Deggendorf and Ingolstadt.
Over the next few weeks, inhabitants of the regions involved may come across armed soldiers and military vehicles on roads or in towns.
The Bundeswehr warns of possible traffic disruptions and asks the population to follow the instructions of the forces on the ground and respect any restrictions or detours.
