KARACHI – Pakistan’s defense minister has threatened “open war” if talks with the Afghan Taliban government in Istanbul fail. “We have the option of open war with them if no agreement is reached,” Khawaja Muhammad Asif said in a televised address on Saturday. “But I saw that they want peace.” A ceasefire agreed by both countries in Doha a few days ago is being observed by both sides.
