Kira Cousins, 22, made news in the United Kingdom when she admitted that she faked a pregnancy, organized a gender reveal tea, simulated childbirth and presented a reborn baby as her daughter, called Bonnie-Leigh Joyce, “born” weighing 2.3 kilos. Afterwards, she even stated that the child had died.

A resident of Airdrie, Scotland, Kira deceived her family and the boy she believed to be the child’s father for months. To make the farce convincing, she used a prosthetic belly, faked ultrasounds and invented messages about pregnancy. The situation only began to fall apart when relatives realized that the baby never cried and could not be held, citing an alleged health problem.
Upon being unmasked, Kira even informed her boyfriend that Bonnie-Leigh had died. In an outburst published on Instagram on October 10, the young woman publicly apologized for the lie. “I faked ultrasounds, messages, an entire birth story and acted as if the doll was a real baby. I know how bad it is, I messed up. I just didn’t know how to stop once I started,” he said.
She also acknowledged that she needs professional help. “I don’t have a proper excuse. I wasn’t in my right mind, but that doesn’t make what I did acceptable. I know this will stay with me for a long time and that I’ve probably lost friends that I’ll never get back. I’m trying to understand myself and get help, because this version of me is not someone I want to be,” he added.
Kira’s cousin, Neave McRobert, told the New York Post that everyone believed the hoax: “She did a gender reveal, posted ultrasound photos and even said the baby had a hole in the heart. Then she texted me saying the baby was born. We were all very happy.”
