Dispute over elective doctor costs: ÖGK calls for an upper limit on fees

Vienna – The chairman of the health insurance fund (ÖGK), Andreas Huss, advocates an upper limit for elective doctor bills based on the German model. He has “more and more complaints from patients who say, ‘I pay huge sums of money to the doctors I choose and only get a part back from the health insurance company’,” said Huss in the Ö1 Morning Journal on Monday. “We see that elective doctors really charge 10 or 15 times the statutory health insurance rate, which is really unreasonable.”
