SP Chamber launches ideological anti-censorship front in art – 10/27/2025 – Panel

The Parliamentary Front of Free Artists launches on Thursday (30), with the aim of “defending freedom of creation, aesthetic pluralism and the end of ideological censorship in Brazilian art”.

The initiative brings together 12 councilors from different parties, including João Jorge (MDB) and Amanda Vettorazzo (Uniao Brasil). Among the articulators are the

“Brazil is experiencing a creative blackout. Art has been hijacked by ideological discourses that divide rather than inspire. We want to give back to the artist the right to be free and to the public, the right to laugh, think and be moved without a political filter”, says Teófilo.

The launch event, at 6:30 pm in the Chamber, will feature parliamentarians, artists and cultural producers.

During the event, the Utopia Brasil de Artes Festival will be presented, which takes place between October 30th and November 2nd, and will have artistic freedom as its theme.

“What is at stake here is not just aesthetics, it is democracy. Culture cannot be the monopoly of one group, it has to be the space where the whole of Brazil expresses itself”, says councilor Rubinho Nunes.
