Spanish police seize 6,500 kilos of cocaine on the way to Vigo

Spanish authorities seized 6,500 kilos of cocaine on a merchant ship intercepted around a thousand kilometers from the Canaries, in the Atlantic. The operation, conducted by special units of the Spanish police with support from the North American DEA, resulted in the arrest of the nine crew members on board the Tanzanian-flagged vessel.

The drugs, hidden in the ship’s holds, originated in Panama and were destined for the port of Vigo, in northern Spain. This is another major seizure in a country that has become one of the main gateways for cocaine into Europe, due to its strategic location and connections with Latin America.
