The American government intensifies pressure on the leader of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, with joint exercises between the USA and Trinidad and Tobago
The Venezuelan government announced the capture of “a group of mercenaries” linked to the American intelligence agency (CIA), amid the start of joint exercises between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago off the Venezuelan coast, which Caracas denounced this Sunday as a “military provocation”.
The Venezuelan government reacted to the arrival of the American warship USS Gravely in Trinidad and Tobago as United States President Donald Trump intensifies pressure on Venezuela’s leader, Nicolás Maduro. In a statement released by Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, Caracas denounced “the military provocation by Trinidad and Tobago, in coordination with the CIA, to provoke a war in the Caribbean.”
The ship was observed this morning in front of Port of Spain. Caracas stated that “this is not a question of defense exercises, but rather a colonial operation of military aggression that seeks to convert the Caribbean into a space for lethal violence and the imperial dominance of the United States.”
The Venezuelan government accused the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, of having “renounced the sovereignty” of her country to align itself with the United States, which turns “her territory into an American aircraft carrier for the war throughout the Caribbean against Venezuela, Colombia and all of South America”, according to the statement.
