Acre recorded 137 deaths of babies under one year of age between January and October 2025, according to data from the Infant and Fetal Mortality Monitoring Panel, from the Ministry of Health. The numbers include cases occurring in the first days of life and also deaths considered preventable.

According to the survey, 60 of these deaths occurred in the first week of life, a period known as early neonatal. Another 48 occurred between the 28th day and the first year, while 29 were classified as preventable, that is, they could have been prevented with appropriate care actions for pregnant women and newborns.

The Ministry of Health highlights that factors such as lack of access to prenatal care, birth without medical supervision and lack of routine pediatric care are among the main causes of these deaths.

In the North, the total reached 2,354 child deaths in the same period, almost 500 of which were considered preventable. Across Brazil, more than 13 thousand babies did not survive in the first year of life, a figure that reinforces the importance of public policies aimed at maternal and child health.
