The Superior Court of Sports Justice for Football (STJD) scheduled the trial of striker Bruno Henrique, from Flamengo, for this Thursday (30), at 10am. The player is trying to reverse the decision applied on September 4th, through an appeal presented by the club.

What is Bruno Henrique’s punishment?

Bruno Henrique received a suspension of 12 matches in the Brasileirão, in addition to a fine of R$60,000, for alleged involvement in a results manipulation scheme — an investigation carried out by the Federal Police since August 2023. At the end of last year, the athlete and others under investigation had their addresses searched by the authorities, and the indictment took place in April 2024.

If Flamengo’s request is not accepted, this Wednesday’s duel (29) against Racing, in the Libertadores semi-final, could mark the player’s farewell to the season. There are only nine rounds left in the Brazilian Championship and, in the most positive scenario, Rubro-Negro would play one more match if they reach the continental final — totaling ten commitments. As the punishment requires playing 12 games, the attacker would still have two matches pending for 2026.

Understand the case of Bruno Henrique

Three companies (Betano, GaleraBet and KTO) would have noticed the creation of new accounts and bets in an unusual volume on cards to be taken by Bruno Henrique against Santos, in 2023. The new accounts would come from Belo Horizonte, the city where Bruno Henrique was born. According to Betano, 98% of the betting volume in the card market was directed to Bruno Henrique, reported “ge”. According to the investigation, they were made by the player’s friends and relatives.

The investigation originates from a report by IBIA (International Betting Integrity Association), an international entity that is also involved in the investigation into alleged manipulation by Lucas Paquetá in England.

In addition to the Sports Court, in the Common Court, the athlete also recently became a defendant. He was reported to the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT), which accepted a complaint filed by the Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT).
