It is past time for our laws to be modernized to classify these drug traffickers as terrorists.

The is a city at war. How many times have we heard this cliché? Unfortunately, there is no better phrase to portray what is happening in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Whoever turned on the TV today was unsure whether they were watching scenes on or off. Drones to launch grenades, armored vehicles and rifles were not part of the scene neither in Eastern Europe nor in , but in the “wonderful” city.

It is no longer possible to be proud of Rio de Janeiro just for its natural beauty, when the population finds itself cornered by crime. Robberies, kidnappings and murders are already part of the routine in Rio and other capitals. Of course, there is nothing wonderful about this.

In the specific case of Rio de Janeiro, we can say that the city is no longer taken over by crime, but by narcoterrorism. Today, innocent people were murdered in cold blood, as a way of blackmailing the advancement of police forces. What name do we give to this, if not terrorism?

It is past time for our laws to be modernized to classify these traffickers as terrorists. In addition to penal modernization, Justice must also do its part, rigorously applying the law to avoid impunity – the main cause of crime in our country.

Finally, it is more than necessary to use the armed forces to combat narco-terrorism in Brazilian capitals. As Brazil does not enter into conflicts with other nations, we have a huge number of soldiers standing still, who could be used in this real civil war. Rio de Janeiro is not still beautiful. It’s much closer to the Gaza Strip than .
