The governor of Goiás, (), defended this Wednesday (29) as a “rescue of the democratic rule of law” and stated that the agenda of public security and the fight against organized crime is the Achilles heel of the president’s party.

“The PT is complacent with crime, an ally of factions. It’s not a right-wing agenda, it belongs to the population. But it’s an agenda with which only we [de direita] we are committed,” he said in an interview with Sheet.

The issue of security is the governor’s main focus, who has already launched himself as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026.

On social media, the president of the PT, Edinho Silva, stated that it was “regrettable that governors, in the saga of attacking President Lula, set up a platform over the bodies of hundreds of dead people, that they hold a rally over the tears of hundreds of mothers who have not yet buried their children.”

“It will not be with politics that we will defeat organized crime, but with competence, as was done in the Hidden Carbon operation”, he declared.

Caiado said that the action in Rio served to show that the State can confront crime, even with what he called the Union’s failure to deal with drug trafficking.

He met with the governors of , (Republicans), of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes (União Brasil), of Minas Gerais, (Novo), and of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello (PL), to discuss the crisis in Rio and how they could help. There will be a new face-to-face meeting, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, with other local heads of executive.

The governor of Goiás has already said that he will make police available if the governor of Rio de Janeiro, (), deems it necessary. Asked about what other measure he had to offer to combat factions in the state, he said: “My arrival at Palácio do Planalto”.

“I would say it was an operation to rescue the democratic rule of law, to return Rio to the locals. How are you going to carry out an operation with people attacking with drones, grenades, bombs, high-powered weapons and you being forced to enter the streets to be able to confront people in their habitat, very well armed? Will it happen without any deaths?”, stated Caiado.

“Is it a war or what do you think? How many CV [Comando Vermelho] kills per day in Brazil? Much more than 60. This confrontation is war, without a doubt. The forces of the CV and the PCC [Primeiro Comando da Capital] are larger than the Brazilian Army. No one is going into operation to kill anyone. The confrontation was caused by the crime, they were the ones who reacted to the decision to comply with a court decision”, he added.

The action in the Alemão and Penha complexes, in the north of Brazil, was the most lethal in the country involving police, according to the executive director of

when a wave of attacks took over the state after attacks by the (First Command of the Capital) against security forces.

Samira, however, explains that, even with the large number of murders, it was not possible to count how many deaths were actually committed by the police.
