Chamber Resolution expands the power of the Legislative Police – 10/30/2025 – Power

Approved, this Thursday (30), a resolution proposed by the Board of Directors, headed by the president of the House, (-PB), which expands the powers of action of the Legislative Police.

The text includes, among the responsibilities of the Legislative Police, the execution of arrest warrants and the monitoring of searches and seizures within the areas under the responsibility of the Chamber.

The resolution also assigns police officers to execute arrest orders in the act, subpoenas and search and seizure in CPIs (Parliamentary Commissions of Inquiry).

After approval of the resolution, Motta mentioned two security incidents that occurred this Wednesday (29).

“We had, on the part of our Legislative Police Department, the seizure of sharp items, pocket knives and also a shock machine that was seized in the search, at the entrance of students who were visiting the Chamber of Deputies. This worried us a lot”, he said.

Furthermore, Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM) was approached by a small group of men who were protesting against changes in the text of a provisional measure of his rapporteurship while using their cell phones to record the parliamentarian’s reaction.

“We are already studying completely changing the security and access structure to the House. We have lived through times of great radicalism, of incidents that have been repeated and we will make the decision, at the end of the year, to be able to change the access structure and the search at the entrance to the House”, added Motta.

Coercive conduct and escort of prisoners and deponents in committees are also part of the Legislative Police’s role, as well as carrying out criminal investigations.

According to the resolution, the Legislative Police will be able to access databases of public security bodies regarding weapons, vehicles and identification of people through an agreement or assignment.

In justifying the resolution, the Board of Directors states that the objective is to update the responsibilities of the Legislative Police, “encompassing and providing legal certainty to the responsibilities already carried out today [atualmente] by this police unit”.
