The future is coming to homes and, this time, it comes in the form of a robot. North American company 1X Home Robots presented NEO, which it describes as the world’s first humanoid robot capable of performing common household tasks, such as folding laundry, arranging shelves and even suggesting dishes for dinner.
According to Euronews, this is the first human-shaped domestic robot ready to hit the market. Powered by a large language model, the same type of technology that underpins the most advanced artificial intelligence systems, NEO learns from the user, retains preferences and adapts to new contexts.
A home assistant that learns from you
According to the same publication, the robot can be controlled by voice or by simply touching a mobile device, functioning as a true personal assistant. “We bring the idea of robots from science fiction into everyday life, so that people can enjoy their time at home more,” the company said in a statement.
NEO comes equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a three-way speaker sound system, which also allows the robot to be used as entertainment equipment. In addition to performing household tasks, it can lift more than 68 kilos and carry up to 25 while carrying out everyday activities.
Supervised by humans
The Wall Street Journal, which had early access to the model, states that some tasks may still require human supervision. According to the newspaper, company representatives will be able to remotely access the robot’s camera to ensure that actions are carried out correctly.
1X’s executive director confirmed that the robot collects usage data to improve performance and personalize responses.
The price (and when it hits the market)
With a launch price of around 20 thousand dollars (approximately 17 thousand euros) or 499 dollars per month (approximately 425 euros) on a subscription model, NEO will be launched first in the United States in 2026, and should expand to other markets by 2027.
According to , the announcement comes shortly after the presentation of Figure 03, from Figure AI, another domestic robot still in the development phase.
A new generation of home robots
At the same time, technology companies continue to invest in non-humanoid models, such as the SwitchBot K20+ Pro, capable of vacuuming, washing and even monitoring pets.
The launch of NEO is seen as a milestone in the evolution of smart assistants. 1X Home Robots believes that the humanoid robot model ushers in a new era in which artificial intelligence becomes an active part of domestic life: not just as a tool, but as a presence in the home.
