Binho de Jesus: history
Carmelito Barros de Jesus Júnior was born and raised in the Cidade Nova neighborhood, in Salvador (BA), and is one of the most experienced and respected names in Bahian boxing. Nicknamed “Tractor Hand” because of the strength of his blows, Binho started boxing in social projects in his neighborhood, still a teenager. His passion for the sport led him to become a professional athlete and, later, a teacher and coach, training new generations of fighters and offering opportunities to young people in socially vulnerable situations.
With 29 professional fights under his belt (20 wins and 9 losses), the Salvador native started as a professional in 2005 and won the International Boxing Federation (FIB) title in Italy in 2015 – a victory that propelled him onto the international scene. He is part of the Champions team, led by Luís Carlos Dórea, coach responsible for revealing great names in Brazilian boxing, such as Popó, Robson Conceição, Hebert Conceição and Adriana Araújo.
Binho de Jesus: current moment
Before being confirmed on Fight Music Show 7, Binho almost gave up his career. Tired of the lack of sponsorship and the double routine as a teacher and athlete, he even announced backstage that he would hang up his gloves.
– I arrived for Herbert [Conceição] (Olympic boxing champion at Tokyo 2020) and I said: “I don’t want to fight anymore. I’m just going to train and teach.” I was tired, without sponsorship. Then he started crying and hugged me. On the same day, Popó called me asking if I wanted to fight (against Esquiva Falcão). I thanked God and accepted – said the Bahian, who was once Popó’s sparring partner.
Now, Binho sees the duel against Esquiva Falcão, 35 years old, as the biggest chance of his life:
– It’s like a world title for me. I will face him as world champion. He said he’s going to hit me because I’m a big girl, but let’s see if he really will. I hit harder. If I hit a good one, he stays on the canvas. Let’s see in the ring who is the crown.
