Fire in Russian port of Tuapse: Ukrainian drones cause damage to key oil terminal

Ukrainian drones on Sunday night they caused damage and caused a fire to infrastructure and a tanker in a Black Sea Russian port Tuapse, where a large oil terminal is located. Reuters drew attention to it, TASR informs.

“We are currently reflecting a drone attack in Tuapse. Falling drones damaged infrastructure in the port and caused a fire. No casualties are recorded,” local authorities in the Krasnodar region, where Tuapse is located, said on Telegram. Debris from the drones also fell on one of the tankers in the port. A fire subsequently broke out on the ship and the crew had to be evacuated.

It is not yet clear which part of the port’s infrastructure was damaged. The city has an oil terminal and a refinery owned by Rosneft. Both were the target of Ukrainian drone attacks several times this year.

Reuters reminds that the terminal in Tuapse is a key center for the export of crude oil and refined petroleum products to international markets. According to the agency, any disruption to its operation may have impact on export flows. Debris from falling drones also damaged a residential building in the village of Sosnovij, near Tuapse. However, no injuries are reported.

According to the DPA, Ukrainian drones hit several targets also in Russian-occupied territories. Power outages were reported from the occupied Ukrainian Luhansk region. According to the Russian-appointed governor of the partially occupied Zaporozhye region, Yevhen Balický, there were power outages in the north of the region. They resumed deliveries about an hour later.

In recent months, Kyiv has intensified its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. The aim is to weaken the Russian war economy by targeting energy, military and industrial facilities and show ordinary Russians that a military conflict is not far away from them.
