Trump warns China against invading Taiwan: President Xi Jinping should know the consequences

  • Trump declared that Xi Jinping knows the consequences of attacking Taiwan.
  • He said that China will not invade Taiwan while he is the US president.
  • China’s defense minister called reunification with Taiwan unstoppable historical trend.

Chief of the White House Donald Trump declared that Chinese President Xi Jinping is aware of the consequences of a possible attack on Taiwan. However, in an interview with CBS News, he refused to say clearly whether the United States would defend the island in such a case, reports TASR.

Asked if he would send US troops into action in the event of a Chinese invasion, Trump said: “You’ll find out if it happens, and he (Xi Jinping) knows the answer.” He declined to provide further details.

At the same time, the American president repeated that Beijing will not decide on military action against Taiwan as long as he is the president of the USA. He also added that the issue of Taiwan was not the topic of his meeting with Xi Jinping in South Korea on Thursday.

Meanwhile Chinese Defense Minister Tung Jun said on Friday that the “reunification” of China and Taiwan is an “unstoppable historical trend”. He stated this during a meeting with his American business partner Pete Hegseth in Malaysia.

Mainland China considers Taiwan part of its territory, despite the fact that the island has had an independent government since 1949. Communist Beijing has repeatedly declared that it will one day dominate Taiwan and has not ruled out the use of military force to achieve this goal. In such a case, the United States has a legal obligation to support the island’s defense under the 1979 Act.
