The Haitian government has declared three days of national mourning since Monday after the devastating hurricane Melissa, which caused at least 30 deaths due to floods and landslides. A state of emergency has been declared in several regions, which will be valid for three months. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency. In addition to Haiti, one of the strongest hurricanes in the history of the Caribbean affected Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas.

It claimed at least 28 lives in Jamaica. Jamaica’s Ministry of Culture said that in response to Hurricane Melissa, it will hold benefit concerts to raise money for reconstruction. Reggae musicians with the motto “I love Jamaica” will play concerts in Kingston, London, New York and Toronto from November 14.

“As we have done so many times, we once again seek solace in our music, our reggae music, which has proven to be a healing balm and elixir in difficult and anxious times not only for Jamaicans, but for the world,” Culture Minister Olivia Grange said on Instagram.

Melissa is the strongest Atlantic hurricane to make landfall since 1935. With a maximum wind speed of 295 kilometers per hour, it also ranks among the strongest in the history of measurements.
