The series, which tells the story behind the scenes of the so-called “prison of the famous”, was launched last Friday (31/10) and has already become one of the phenomena of Brazilian streaming. Curiosity surrounding the lives of , , and company explains the success of Prime Video’s work, but it is not the only motivation.
This is because the category of productions that address real crimes on TV and cinema has been growing in recent years. Its success is such that it has even gained a name: true crime. And there is no shortage of examples over the last few years, including those responsible for high-profile cases in Brazil. With that in mind, the LeoDias portal recalls other true crimes that also became high-profile series and films.
The murder of Manfred and Marísia von Richthofen, for example, became a trilogy with “The Girl Who Killed Her Parents”, “The Boy Who Killed My Parents” and “The Girl Who Killed Her Parents – The Confession”, which addresses different versions of the crime. - Dahmer: An American Cannibal

Jeffrey Dahmer’s story has been covered in numerous productions over the past few decades. In 2022, the case came to light again with the release of “Dahmer: An American Cannibal”, with Evan Peters playing the serial killer who killed 17 people between 1978 and 1991. The American kept most of the corpses in his residence for the purposes of cannibalism and necrophilia.
- Monsters: Menendez Brothers: Parent Killers

The second season of “Monsters”, which began precisely with the Dahmer case, rescued the story of the Menendez Brothers, convicted of murdering their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. Erik and Lyle maintain the version that they committed the crime after suffering sexual, physical and psychological abuse, while the US Court points out that the motivation was the millionaire inheritance they would receive.

The story of Ted Bundy, who confessed to more than 30 murders between 1974 and 1978, is another that has gained multiple versions in drama. In “Ted Bundy: The Final Confession”, the focus is the period after the crimes, with the person responsible revealing details of the practice of many of the crimes committed. “Ted Bundy: The Irresistible Face of Evil” shows the serial killer’s relationship with his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who refused to believe in her partner’s guilt.

Unlike the other works on the list, “O Caso Asunta” is named after the victim in the story, a 12-year-old girl who disappeared and later had her body found in a story surrounded by mysteries. The girl of Chinese origin was adopted by a Spanish couple when she was one year old. Until the investigation turned against them.

Monster: A History of Ed Gein

The third season of “Monsters” tells the story of Ed Gein, a killer who became known as “the Butcher of Plainfield”. The production released in October 2025 highlights the crimes committed by the serial killer and thief of human corpses in the 1950s. He was convicted of two murders, but is associated with dozens of other deaths, which were never effectively proven.

The Brazilian representative on the list is “Maniac do Parque”, released in 2024. The film recalls the crimes committed by Francisco de Assis Pereira, accused of attacking 21 women in the central region of São Paulo, in the 90s. The motorcycle courier, considered the greatest Brazilian serial killer, was convicted of the deaths of seven women, but confessed to 11 murders.
