Kremlin video shows Putin getting out of the car he was driving to pick up Vera Gurevich from a hotel in the capital, after inviting the teacher to attend the Victory Day celebrations

A video released by the Kremlin shows Vladimir Putin driving his own car through the streets of Moscow to a hotel in the Arbat region, to meet with former teacher Vera Gurevich.

In the images, rare in the Russian leader’s daily life, Putin appears behind the wheel of an Aurus Komendant, dressed informally and with a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

At the hotel entrance, the Russian president greets Vera Gurevich, who was invited by the Kremlin to attend the Victory Day celebrations in Red Square.

Putin personally invited the former teacher to participate in the celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Second World War.

The video also shows a relaxed atmosphere, with Putin chatting briefly before leaving the hotel arm in arm with the teacher and helping her get into the car, which he himself drove.

Vera Gurevich was Putin’s teacher at School No. 193, in Leningrad, and is often cited as one of the most influential figures in the Russian president’s personal training, having been responsible for teaching him German.
