- Epstein’s ties to Trump have fueled speculation about their relationship.
US President Donald On Sunday, Trump expressed regret over Britain’s King Charles III’s decision to strip his brother Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of all remaining titles. This happened as a result of the scandal associated with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the agencies DPA and Reuters.
“It’s a terrible thing that happened to this family, it’s a tragic situation… I’m very sorry,” Trump told reporters. Andrew was stripped of His Royal Highness and other military titles several years ago. He renounced his title of Duke of York and other honors in mid-October. At the end of October, the British King Charles III began the formal process of stripping his brother of his remaining titles and honors. Andrew also lost his title of prince.
The king’s brother was a longtime friend of Epstein and his partner Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of British tycoon Robert Maxwell, who was later convicted of facilitating the trafficking of minors. Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to sexually abusing underage girls. In August 2019, he died in his prison cell – it was officially a suicide.
The name of the prince Andrew was mentioned in connection with American Virginia Giuffre, who claimed that Epstein and Maxwell forced her to have sex with him – she was 17 years old at the time. Andrew has repeatedly denied the allegations.
In 2021, Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against the prince in the US. Andrew decided to avoid a trial and in 2022 reached an out-of-court settlement, in which according to British media, he paid around 12 million pounds (13.5 million euros). However, he pleaded not guilty in the out-of-court settlement.
Epstein’s ties to influential figures – including Trump – have been the subject of speculation ever since. Trump befriended the late financier, but denies committing any sexual offenses. During his election campaign, Trump promised to release all files related to Epstein, but so far this has not happened.
