New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani had a message for US President Donald Trump: “Turn up the volume.”

also stated that his victory tonight is for all New Yorkers, from taxi drivers to cooks.
He told a story about how he went on a 15-day hunger strike in front of City Hall with a taxi driver named Richard.
“My brother, we are at City Hall now,” he said.
Mamdani recounted other conversations he had with working-class people over the years. He said his campaign was for these people to be represented.
“This city is your city and this democracy is yours too,” he said.

Also during his victory speech, Mamdani presented his vision for the administration, which he described as a “new era”.
“Tonight, we took a step from the old to the new,” he told a crowd of supporters in Brooklyn.
“So let’s speak now with clarity and conviction, leaving no room for doubt, about what this new era will bring and for whom,” he said.
Mamdani went on to say that in this era, he would deliver New Yorkers “a bold vision” rather than excuses.
“Central to this vision will be the most ambitious agenda to address the cost of living crisis this city has seen since the days of (former mayor) Fiorello La Guardia,” the Democrat said.
Mamdani has made accessibility a central point of his campaign and reiterated this evening that his plans include a rent freeze, free municipal buses and universal access to daycare.
