Rui Costa vs. Noronha Lopes: the second (and decisive) round of the Benfica elections

This weekend, Benfica meets the new president for the four-year period 2025-2029, in a second electoral round that pits Rui Costa against João Noronha Lopes, with the current leader having an advantage.

After a first vote, on October 25th, which featured a record six candidates and without there being a majority of votes for any of them, Rui Costa and Noronha Lopes obtained the highest percentages and went on to a second round, which takes place this Saturday.

The former footballer and current president is the big favorite to renew his mandate at the helm of the Lisbon club, after having received 42.13% of the members’ preferences, against 30.26% from manager João Noronha Lopes.

Favoritism is on Rui Costa’s side, but it is important to understand the voting direction of the members who did not vote for any of those who go on to the second round, namely among the supporters of Luís Filipe Vieira (13.86%) and João Diogo Manteigas (11.48%).
