Algeria’s President Abdelmajid Tebboune has complied with a request from Germany and pardoned the imprisoned writer Boualem Sansal. Tebboune is responding to the request of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the presidential office in Algiers announced on Wednesday. The 81-year-old author was arrested in November 2024 after an interview. He was charged with “endangering national unity.”
