European Council President António Costa on Tuesday accused Russia of being behind several unidentified drones that appeared over Dublin on December 1 during the landing of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s plane. AFP reported.
“Unfortunately, what happened last week in Dublin is another example of hybrid attacks and threats from Russia on European soil,” Costa said during a press conference with Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin.
„This is nothing new, but we are dealing with these threats in all our countries and we have full confidence in the Irish authorities.” added Costa to the Irish police, who are investigating the incident. In a statement quoted by The Irish Times, the Russian embassy “categorically rejected” claims of Russian involvement.
Martin stated at a joint press conference that he “disagrees” with the Russian envoy: “The drone incident fits into a pattern of similar disruptive events that have taken place in other European states.” The Irish newspaper The Journal reported that the crew of an Irish ship noticed several military-type drones in the sky above the coast. The incident took place just as the plane carrying Zelensky was about to land. At that time, a no-fly zone was declared over Dublin.
