The United States is currently intercepting another sanctioned oil tanker in international waters of the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Venezuela, according to American media reports.

President Donald Trump’s government had already seized, last week, a vessel that had left the South American country and confiscated the crude oil it was transporting.

The broadcaster “ABC News”, citing three US government officials, indicates that there are no further details about the vessel or the exact location where the Coast Guard is carrying out the interception.

The American Army “is providing support” with helicopters that transport Coast Guard personnel to the ship and also supervise the operation, according to the broadcaster “NBC News”.

So far, Trump has not commented on this operation.

The Republican has intensified his pressure on Venezuela in recent weeks and recently ordered a total blockade of oil tankers sanctioned by the American government entering and leaving the country.

Furthermore, the president stated last Wednesday that Venezuela withdrew oil rights from American companies.

“Remember, they took away all our energy rights. They took away all our oil not that long ago. We want it back. They took it from us illegally,” the president told reporters at Andrews Air Force Base, outside Washington.
