Festive science spectacle: The Christmas Lecture turns 200


They are an integral part of British Christmas culture – almost like Charles Dickens’ story A Christmas Carolthe song Last Christmas by Wham! or the film Love Actually. Only the Christmas lectures at the Royal Institution in London are even older than that A Christmas Carol: These lectures on science communication took place for the first time in 1825 and are therefore probably the most traditional and sustainable series of lectures in order to bring science and its fascination closer to more than just a young audience.
