Francisco Fernández Marugán died this Tuesday at the age of 79, as EL PAÍS has been able to confirm from socialist sources. Born in Cáceres in 1946, he joined the PSOE in 1975. He was a deputy for Seville in the second legislature and later for Badajoz, for seven terms. Marugán held the position of interim ombudsman between 2017 and 2021, when Ángel Gabilondo succeeded him.
