Periods of rain in the first hours of 2026, which in the following two days will be more frequent and intense. Temperatures fluctuate.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere indicated that the effects of depression ‘Francis’ should start to feel on the continent from today (Thursday) morning, no rain is forecast for the night.
In a statement, IPMA states that the approach of the frontal system associated with the ‘Francis’ depression should begin to take effect from Thursday morning with periods of rain, in general weak, no west coast and gradually extending to the interior.
“Nos days 2 and 3, a precipitation will continue, with more frequency e intensity in the regions Center and Southespecially in the Algarve, where it can be occasionally accompanied by thunderstorm”, adds IPMA.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere also states that, from Thursday afternoon onwards, there will be an increase in the intensity of the vento due to the gradual approach of the ‘Francis’ depression, with “gusts of the order of 70 to 80 kilometers/hour on the coast and 100 km/h in the highlandsparticularly in the Center and South regions”.
IPMA foresees, from Saturday, one weakening gradual do vento, which can still blow strong at times in the highlands and, until early afternoon, in the Algarve.
The institute also indicates that, in Friday, a temperature should climb, especially the minimum, which should return to to descend no domingo, and that the state of the sea “will gradually undergo a change” throughout the first day of 2026 “with waves from the south/southwest, initially with 1 to 1.5 meters, which will gradually increase, reaching three to four meters south of Cabo Raso”.
