US lowers taxes on Italian pasta

US Department of Commerce reduces rates that would reach up to 92% for 13 producers

The United States Department of Commerce has reduced tariffs imposed on 13 Italian pasta manufacturers, reducing rates that would have reached 92% to values of 2.26% to 14%.

The new tariffs will be applied in addition to the on most imports from the European Union. The information was released by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs this Thursday (January 1, 2026).

The government of President Donald Trump (Republican Party) had initially proposed higher anti-dumping duties after an investigation identified that Italian producers were selling products at prices considered artificially low, which would harm US manufacturers.

The decision to reduce tariffs was made after analyzing the commercial practices of Italian companies. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs interpreted the change as recognition of manufacturers’ collaboration during the process.

The La Molisana brand will have imports taxed at 2.26%, while Garofalo will face tariffs of almost 14%. The other 11 pasta brands will be subject to a 9% import tax.

The White House has not yet commented on the reduction in tariffs.
