Yangon (Rangoon) – In Myanmar, the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) is ahead after the first phase of parliamentary elections, state media reported on Friday (local time). The USDP, led by retired generals, won 38 of the 40 lower house seats counted so far, while the remaining two went to the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party and the Mon Unity Party.
