The Ethics Council ended 2025 without a single meeting. The collegiate, in theory responsible for “preserving the dignity of the parliamentary mandate”, was not even installed last year — the inaugural session that defines the president and vice so that the commission can actually begin to function.
The last board meeting was held in July 2024 (the only one that year), without major developments. In 2023, the senators met, also without punishing any colleague.
The most unusual case of 2025 (Podemos-ES), targeted by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) for the release of a confidential report by Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) and for a campaign on social media against Alexandre de Moraes and the federal police officers who investigated the attempted coup d’état.
To reverse the actions by Moraes, such as the use of electronic ankle bracelets and the blocking of social networks, the leadership of the Senate decided to do Val, circumventing the Ethics Council, along the lines of what had been done in the .
Finally, however, parliamentarians sealed an agreement with Do Val for him to take sick leave for four months. Moraes returned the social networks, but the senator resumed his mandate two months earlier than agreed with his colleagues and was left without any punishment.
