The Venezuelan military supports the appointment of Rodríguez as interim president

El Periódico

A few hours after Marco Rubio, the North American Secretary of State, gave Delcy Dodríguez an opportunity as “president in charge”, although conditioned to make the “appropriate decisions”, the Venezuelan Armed Forces supported the designation of Nicolás Maduro’s replacement. The Minister of Defense and person in charge of the military structure, Vladimir Padrino López, stated in the document read to the country that the military They no longer comply with what the Superior Court of Justice had ordered.to (TSJ) on Saturday night. It is, according to number three of the maturenessof an institutional decision. To give a sense of normality impossible after Maduro’s capture, Padrino López called on the people to “Resume your activities, work, educational in the coming days“. Venezuela “must move on its constitutional track.” Along the same lines, the uniformed men will witness the opening ceremony of the National Assembly that is scheduled for this Monday.

The document condemns what it calls the “cowardly kidnapping” of Maduro Moros and the first lady, Cilia Flores, “after murdering a large part of his security team in cold blood“, soldiers and innocent citizens.” It is the first official version of the events that led to the “extraction” of the president.

At the same time, the military “fully” supported the State Decree of Foreign Shock throughout the national territory, “previously signed” by Rodríguez. The Armed Forces, the document states, will continue to use “all their capabilities to safeguard security, maintain internal order and promote a climate of tranquility.” In order to meet these objectives, the high command announced the activation of the “Complete Operational Readiness Commission” in the entire geographic space to “confront imperial aggression” and form “a single combat block.”

Contradictions

The language used apparently shows an imperturbable power structure beyond indignation at the fate of Maduro and Flores in New York. The image of a cohesive high command contradicts for the moment the expectation of a break within the Armed Forces. This fissure has been desired and expected by the US for a long time. The photograph of the officers in a martial position does not initially coincide with Rubio’s diagnosis. “Now there are other people in charge of the military and police apparatus in Venezuela. They will have to decide which direction to take. And we hope that they choose a different course than the one that Nicolás Maduro chose,” he told North American television. That has not yet been fulfilled, and the Secretary of State “knows” it, which is why at the same time he issued a warning. ““The United States will maintain multiple levers of pressure.”. The inevitable question is whether he will accept the continuity of Padrino López, who is part of the list of those “sanctioned” by the US.

Among the US demands that are at one point military competence include the expulsion of the Colombian armed groups, the ELN and the FARC dissidentswhich not only operate on both sides of the borders, but have also had implicit protection of the maturity. “In the 21st century, under the Trump Administration, We are not going to have a country like Venezuela in our own hemisphere acting as a crossroads for Hezbollah, for Iran and for any other evil influence.“added Rubio.

He also insisted that Washington is not “at war with Venezuela” but against “drug trafficking organizations.” Therefore, “We will continue attacking the drug gangs if they try to head towards the United States.” The seizures of “vessels that are sanctioned with court orders” will also continue, in reference to oil tankers carrying Venezuelan crude oil. A few days before being captured, Maduro had ordered the Navy to guard those vessels in the territorial sea and upon abandoning it. The instruction was never carried out.
