Yemen on Saturday completed the evacuation of more than 600 tourists who were stranded on the island of Socotra due to the deterioration of the security situation in the mainland part of the country. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.
Four planes of the national airline Yemenia Airways transported a total of 609 tourists to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. Turiists on the island have been stranded by recent clashes between Saudi-backed forces and separatists backed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ) of the Slovak Republic on Monday stated that he was in contact with two Slovak citizens who were in Socotra.
The dramatic situation is watched by the moderator and actor Martin Nikodým. According to the local travel agency, there were many Russians and at least two Chinese among the stranded tourists. Citizens of Poland, Britain, France and the USA are also reportedly stranded on the island. Socotra is an island belonging to Yemen, more than 300 kilometers away from the mainland, and despite the civil war, the situation on it was relatively peaceful.
