SHMÚ issued a package of warnings for the districts: Temperatures can drop to minus 20 degrees!

It is valid in several areas of Slovakia on Saturday afternoon level one warning for snow tongues and drifts. In the Trnava and Žilina regions, they should be expected until 9 p.m. and in the Košice, Prešov and Nitra regions until Sunday (January 11). From Saturday evening they are valid in places also warnings of low temperatures and wind in the mountains. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) reported about it on the website.

In the districts Považská Bystrica and Púchov, as well as in most districts of the Žilina Region, snow tongues and drifts may begin create already from 14.00 h. In the entire Košice and Prešov regions they should be expected from 3:00 p.m. A warning is in effect from 4:00 p.m in most districts of the Nitra region. “The formation of snow tongues and drifts represents a potential danger for traffic activities,” warned SHMÚ.

From 10 p.m. until Sunday morning low temperature warnings also apply. The second level is issued for districts Dolný Kubín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Námestovo and Tvrdošín. Also for districts Poprad, Levoča, Kežmarok, Spišská Nová Ves, Rožňava and Gelnica. In these areas, the temperature can drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius. The first level warning applies in most cases Banskobystrické and Trenčín regions and also in the rest of the districts of Žilina, Prešovské and Košice regions. There, temperatures can sometimes drop below minus 15 degrees Celsius.

Likewise, from Saturday 10 p.m. they are also released mountain wind warnings. The second level applies in the districts Brezno, Poprad and Liptovský Mikuláš. The first level warning applies in the districts Žilina, Tvrdošín, Ružomberok, Námestovo, Martin, Dolný Kubín and Banská Bystrica. Warnings are provisionally valid throughout Sunday.
