Hezbollah rejected the security agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon with mediation from the United States. The group’s leader, Naim Qassem, declared this Saturday (June 27, 2026) that the document is a “surrender” to Israel, according to .
The agreement, concluded on Friday (June 26, 2026), establishes the. Israeli forces will be able to remain indefinitely in an expanded security zone. More than 1 million Lebanese have been displaced from their homes by the conflict between the two countries.
In a statement, Qassem stated that the agreement is “null and void” and accused the Lebanese government of making unilateral concessions that compromise the country’s sovereignty.
The Hezbollah leader criticized the clauses that link the Israeli withdrawal to the group’s disarmament, stating that the measure legitimizes Israel’s military presence and crosses “all red lines”.
Qassem declared that Hezbollah will maintain its armed resistance. “We have not left the battlefield in the most difficult circumstances, and we will not”these.
The leader also defended that the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States on June 17 should serve as a basis for negotiations. The document establishes principles to end the regional conflict and reaffirms Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Other sectors of the Lebanese Shiite community rejected the agreement. The Amal Movement, led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, criticized the pact and classified it as unbalanced.
The group claims that the text consolidates favorable conditions for Israel. Hundreds of thousands of Lebanese, most of them Shiites, remain unable to return to occupied areas in the south of the country.
ISRAEL APPROVES THE AGREEMENT
On the Israeli side, the Minister of Defense, , praised the agreement and said that the text allows Israel to maintain troops in the so-called security zone in southern Lebanon and prevent the return of displaced residents to the area.
Also this Saturday (June 27), Israel carried out a drone attack in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese state news agency reported that the bombing hit the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, located outside the security zone.
The Israeli Army confirmed the operation to Reuters and said he used a drone because he did not have troops in the region. The target was an individual who Israeli forces perceived as a threat, without providing additional details or evidence of danger.
