Denmark reaches record temperature of 37 degrees

In recent days, several countries in Europe, namely France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, have been experiencing high temperatures and breaking records for hot weather.

This Saturday, Denmark recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees, breaking a record since records began more than 150 years ago, revealed the Meteorological Institute of this Nordic country.

“Today we reached 37 degrees, the highest temperature in the history of Danish weather. It is the highest temperature recorded in Denmark since we started doing it systematically in 1874”, explained that organization on the social network X.

In recent days, several countries in Europe, namely France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, have been experiencing high temperatures and breaking records for hot weather.

A study published on Friday by World Weather Attribution indicates that 45% of European cities have reached or are about to surpass historic maximums of heat stress during the current heat wave on the continent.

Researchers warn that the combination of extreme temperatures and high humidity significantly increases health risks, especially among the elderly, outdoor workers, children and vulnerable people.

Scientists attribute the intensity of these phenomena to the impact of global warming, caused by “continuous emissions of fossil fuels” into the atmosphere.

The UN’s executive secretary for climate change, Simon Stiell, says that the extreme heat affecting Europe is a symptom that climate change is “advancing unchecked”, caused by the “global addiction to burning coal, oil and gas”, although he emphasizes that “the solutions are equally clear”.

According to Stiell, “a faster transition to clean energy, which is now much cheaper than fossil fuels, is needed, as well as the protection of forests and the promotion of climate resilience.”
