
The journalists Íñigo Domínguez, correspondent in Rome for EL PAÍS, and Alfonso Armada are the winners of the Miguel Delibes National Journalism Award, organized by the Valladolid Press Association (APV). The jury of this XXIX edition has decided to award the award, worth 6,000 euros, to both communicators for their articles , of Armada, in the magazine Frontera D (July 30, 2025) and , published in this newspaper by Domínguez. “I feel very honored, as a reader and admirer of Miguel Delibes, who was one of the first writers I read and that I became fond of and tried to copy, with little success,” said Domínguez after learning of the ruling, made public this Monday, whose jury highlights the “great mastery and use of language” of the winners in addressing the same current topic “with two perspectives, two styles and two different languages.”
“It is a pride that seems strange to me to deserve,” admits Domínguez. It rewards “the good use of the Spanish language in the media”, something that makes the Rome correspondent of this newspaper “especially excited”: “It is something that I have always tried to do, even in a somewhat manic way, so if the jury believes that at some point I have achieved it, I am satisfied.” In Damn words well saidthe journalist points out that concepts in politics or adult language “are being reduced to memes.” He talks about the euphemisms that are used to mask the “barbarities” that end up framed in ideologies such as the genocide in Gaza, which was echoed in the media when the article was published in September 2025.

In this edition, works from television and written press (printed and digital) from all over Spain, from specialized and general media, were presented. The Board of Directors of the APV met this morning with the jury composed of , journalist for EL PAÍS and collaborator in the String SER; Antonio Rubio, honorary president of the Association of Investigative Journalists; Óscar Torres, news director of RNE, representing the winners of the last edition; Mar Domínguez, director of the Colpisa Agency, and Francisco Forjas, former international correspondent of RNE. The name of the jury is completed by the member of the Communication management of Unicaja – which sponsors the award -, Yolanda Arrebola; the president of the APV, Fernando Sanz, and the general secretary of the association, Tamara Crespo.
History of the award
The Miguel Delibes National Journalism Award was created on May 22, 1996, after the writer of The path y The holy innocents accepted that this award bear his name. A proposal that was consolidated when the General Assembly of the APV agreed to its creation, within the framework of the commemoration of the IV centenary of the granting of the title of city to Valladolid.

In 2024, the Miguel Delibes National Journalism Prize was awarded to a collection of works prepared by several professionals from Radio Nacional de España (RNE), framed under the title 30 years promoting Spanish on Radio 5.
