Portuguese people have the most difficulty heating their homes in the EU

The highest percentages of people unable to keep their homes adequately heated were observed in Bulgaria and Greece

Portugal was, in 2024, the fourth Member State with the highest percentage of people unable to adequately heat their homes (14.5%), with the European Union (EU) average being 9.2%, according to data released this Monday by Eurostat.

The rate of people unable to adequately heat their homes decreased by 5.9 percentage points (pp) in Portugal compared to the 20.8% recorded in 2023.

In the EU, the indicator improved by 1.4 pp compared to 10.6% in 2023.

The highest percentages of people unable to keep their homes adequately heated were observed in Bulgaria and Greece (both 19.0%), followed by Lithuania (18.0%), Spain (17.5%) and Portugal (14.5%).

In contrast, Finland (2.7%), Poland and Slovenia (both 3.3%) and Estonia and Luxembourg (both 3.6%) recorded the lowest percentages.
