Trains: Oeste Line will only be fully ready again at the end of this year (or in 2027)

Miguel Pinto Luz announced that the line will take “at least nine months” to become fully operational, after bad weather.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luzadmitted that the Oeste railway line will take “at least nine months” to become fully operationalfollowing the damage caused by the storms that devastated the national territory.

At the end of a meeting with various entities in the infrastructure sector, Miguel Pinto Luz said that “when waters recede, It will be possible to reopen some infrastructures, but there are others that will take three months, others will take longer”.

“These are long tasks, but the country is mobilized in all its dimensions to return to normality as quickly as possible”, he also stated, referring to the collaboration between local authorities, the State and the private sector.

Minister Miguel Pinto Luz also announced that the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC) was the body mandated to lead a national audit of the security of large infrastructuressuch as “large embankments and bridges”, because they cannot “be at stake in extreme situations” such as those that have been experienced in the country.

The minister also said that the infrastructure audit will be carried out “in the coming months, in the coming years”.

“We have to ensure that the legacy in public works is resistant, has safety conditions and is reliable for the Portuguese who use it every day”, he added.
