Atlético-MG announces resignation of Jorge Sampaoli – 02/12/2026 – Sport

Jorge Sampaoli is no longer coach of Atlético-MG. The club announced this Thursday (12) the coach’s departure, one day after the 3-3 draw with Remo, in the Brazilian Championship.

Without winning in the first three rounds of Nacional, the team recorded two draws (Remo and Palmeiras) and one defeat (Red Bull Bragantino). Also considering the Campeonato Mineiro, the performance is even more modest: just two wins in ten matches this season.

In a statement, Atlético informed that the decision was taken by mutual agreement. Sampaoli had taken command in September last year, replacing Cuca. Under his direction, the team reached the final of the Copa Sudamericana, but came second after losing the title to Lanús. In the Brazilian Championship, he fought against the bottom of the table.

This was the Argentine’s second spell at the club. In 2020, he managed Atlético in 45 games, with 26 wins, nine draws and ten defeats.

“The club would like to thank Jorge Sampaoli and his technical committee for the services they have provided and wishes them success in their professional career,” Atlético said in a statement.

For the duel against Itabirito, on Saturday (14), in Mineiro, the team will be temporarily led by assistant Lucas Gonçalves. Atlético enters the last round of the first phase depending on a combination of results to advance to the semifinals.
