The trial that analyzes the extradition request of the former federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) was suspended by Italian justice and should be resumed next Thursday (12). The hearing took place at Rome Court of Appeal and was interrupted after initial statements by the prosecution and defense.

According to the defense, the suspension occurred due to the large number of questions presented during the session, which led the court to postpone the continuation of the trial to a new date.
Carla Zambelli has been imprisoned in Italy since July last yearafter leaving Brazil days before the exhaustion of appeals against his conviction in Federal Supreme Court (STF). O extradition request was formalized by the Brazilian government by determination of the minister Alexandre de Moraesrapporteur of the processes involving the former parliamentarian.
The case has already undergone other postponements. Previously, the Italian Court requested more time to analyze the documentation sent by the Brazilian authorities. The defense also tried to change the composition of the panel responsible for the trial, but the request was denied.
When the hearing resumes, new statements from both the prosecution and the defense are expected. One of the central points of the process is the fact that Zambelli holds Italian citizenshipwhich can make extradition difficult, as the country’s legislation imposes restrictions on the delivery of national citizens to other States.
