Hungary is experiencing an intimate video scandal before the elections. Opposition leader Magyar faces massive discredit

The chairman of the opposition party TISZA, Péter Magyar, warned against the upcoming discrediting campaign by Fidesz, which should also include the publication of a secret intimate video. He himself admitted the meeting with the ex-girlfriend and claims that the case may be an intelligence game to cover up the real problems of the country.

On Thursday, the chairman of the non-parliamentary opposition party TISZA, Péter Magyar, publicly drew attention to an allegedly planned discrediting campaign by the ruling Fidesz party, which, according to him, should include the publication of a secretly recorded intimate video. Magyar admitted that in the summer of 2024 he was in an apartment where he was seduced by an ex-girlfriend, adding that he did not realize at the time that it could be an intelligence game. The correspondent of TASR in Budapest informs about it.

  • Péter Magyar drew attention to the upcoming discrediting campaign of Fidesz.
  • He claims that they want to use a secret intimate video against him.
  • He admitted to being involved in a compromising situation in the summer of 2024.
  • Magyar called the campaign an attempt to divert attention from the real issues.
  • Fidesz accused him of duplicity and called him a liar.

The leader of the opposition party went on to say on Facebook that there were unknown persons in the given Budapest apartment and that apart from alcohol there were also drugs, but he did not consume any of it. “I will not give Viktor Orbán the opportunity to distract from the real problems for weeks,” added Magyar, who described the move as a desperate attempt by the government to eliminate him politically and to cover the country’s economic and social problems with Russian-style news coverage.

Tension before the elections

Campaigning is heating up ahead of parliamentary elections due on April 12, with opinion polls suggesting a close fight between Magyar’s TISZA party and Prime Minister Orbán’s Fidesz.

“It turned out that Péter Magyar lives a double life: he shows one face in public and another at night. He confessed. He is a two-faced liar,” responded Fidesz communications director Tamás Menczer.
