New government in Kosovo - Third term for Albin Kurti

His approval for the formation, with Albin Kurti, was given by his parliament for the formation of a new government. This is the third time that the leader of the “Self-Determination” (Vetëvendosje – VV) movement has assumed the leadership of the country, after his party’s victory in the parliamentary elections in December, where it recorded a percentage of 51%.

The government scheme proposed by Kurti received the vote of confidence from 66 MPs, out of a total of 120 members of Parliament. 49 MPs voted against the new government, among them the nine representatives of the “Serbian List”, a party close to Belgrade. The new government consists of 19 ministries and its inauguration marks the end of the political instability that has plagued Kosovo for about a year, during which it was ruled by a caretaker government.

The program of the third Kurti government

In presenting the policy statements, Albin Kurti emphasized economic development, attracting foreign investment, fighting corruption and strengthening the rule of law. He also made special reference to the need to strengthen and modernize the armed forces, stressing that Serbia still poses a serious threat to the territorial integrity of Kosovo.

At the same time, he referred to the dialogue process with Belgrade for the normalization of relations, which is being conducted under the auspices of the European Union. He declared in favor of normalization, but reiterated his government’s firm position that there can be no meaningful progress in the talks as long as Serbia refuses to recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
