Forecast indicates localized rain mainly in the afternoon, with temperatures rising throughout the day
The weather forecast for the start of Carnival is for rain, generally isolated, in much of the country. In places where the celebration is more intense, with samba schools and blocks bringing joy to revelers, the tendency is for this localized rain occurs more in the afternoonwith the temperature rising throughout the day.
This is the case of Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Recife, according to meteorologist Lady Custódio, from National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).
“There may indeed be more isolated rain in the afternoon. Throughout the day, temperatures may rise and then, with the humidity, there may be some isolated rain during the afternoon. But in general, the weather is good throughout the day”, said the meteorologist this Friday (13) in an interview with the Revista Brasil program, on Rádio Nacional.
“We may have slightly higher temperatures in some places, mainly in Rio de Janeiro. In the city, temperatures can reach 36 degrees”, he added.
Storm
Inmet says that, for today, there is “potential storm danger” in much of the South Region, as well as in the south of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul.
There is “great danger of rain” in a strip between Florianópolis and the south coast of Paraná. In this region, more intense rains are expected, which may exceed 60 millimeters per hour (mm/h); and above 100 mm per day, at least until tomorrow (14).
Lady Custódio explains that, in Rio Grande do Sul, “a little more stable weather” should prevail. If there is any rain, it will be more in the northern part of the state, on the border with Santa Catarina.
“In Porto Alegre, the weather will probably be more stable. The trend is for more open weather to enjoy Carnival”, added the meteorologist.
North and Northeast
Danger of more intense rains in areas of Amazonas (in the eastern and western extremities of the state), Pará (mainly in the central strip), Maranhão, Tocantins (northern part of the state), and Acre (northwestern part). In these regions, up to 100 mm of rain are expected throughout the day, and winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour (km/h).
Throughout the coastal strip of the Northeast, with the exception of Bahia, there are possibilities of rain. If they occur, they should reach a maximum of 50 mm per day. Winds of up to 60 km/h are expected.
“In the northeast, we will have those more isolated rains. The highest temperatures will be in the interior of the northeastern states and also in Minas Gerais. In the north of Minas Gerais we may also have higher temperatures and more static and open weather, interesting for Carnival”, detailed the meteorologist.
According to her, the predominance in the Southeast will be high temperatures and no rain. “The trend is towards more open weather and slightly higher temperatures. Therefore, it is worth remembering the importance of people staying hydrated. Drink lots of water”, suggests Lady Custódio.
In places with high temperatures, it is also recommended to avoid exposure to the sun in the afternoon and wear light clothing.
Brasília, according to her, will also have warmer climatewith temperatures around 30 degrees in some spots.
“Some isolated rain may occur, common in high temperatures, accompanied by humidity. But, in general, the temperature will be a little higher in stable weather. Very good for enjoying Carnival”, he explained.
Not revelers
The meteorologist has some recommendations for people who, during Carnival, exchange festivities for nature. In particular, those who visit waterfalls.
“Keep an eye on the weather forecast, which we update every day. Anyone who has plans to go to these places full of nature, needs to do so. If there is any forecast of rain, it is recommended to avoid forests and waterfalls”, he explained.
She suggests that, if there is any sign of rain in these locations, people pay attention to the recommendations of the state and municipal Civil Defense, in addition to the Meteorology institutes. “Avoid places where there may be flooding”
“If it is raining very heavily – or even if there is any prospect of rain with thunder and lightning – it is a good idea not to stay in an open area. It is also not recommended to take shelter under trees or power poles because, unfortunately, these are places where a lot of lightning strikes.”
